A LITTLE HISTORY: The idea of a special day to celebrate fatherhood was introduced in the US by Sonora Smart Dodd who was inspired by Mother's Day and planned a day to honor fathers early in the 20th century. The first Father's Day was celebrated in Spokane, Washington on June 19, 1910, and soon became popular throughout North America including here in Canada.
